From the moment I first held a colorful picture book in my hands as a child, I knew stories had the power to open new worlds. Today, as a children’s book author, I am thrilled to share my journey and the exciting projects I have lined up for this spring and summer. My latest books celebrate the beauty of nature, focusing on the delicate Monarch butterflies and the hidden treasures found in the ocean. These themes have inspired me deeply, and I hope they will spark curiosity and wonder in young readers everywhere.

Discovering the Magic of Monarch Butterflies
Monarch butterflies have fascinated me since childhood. Their incredible migration journey, traveling thousands of miles across North America, is a story of endurance and transformation. I wanted to bring this natural wonder to life for children in a way that is both educational and enchanting.
Writing my book about Monarch butterflies involved extensive research. I learned about their life cycle, the challenges they face, and their role in the ecosystem. But beyond facts, I wanted to capture the magic of watching these butterflies flutter through gardens and meadows. I remember one summer afternoon when I spotted a cluster of Monarch caterpillars munching on milkweed leaves in my backyard. That moment of quiet observation became the heart of my story.
Through vibrant illustrations and simple language, children can connect emotionally with the butterfly’s journey. This project reminded me how storytelling can nurture empathy and respect for the environment.
Treasures from the Ocean: Exploring Underwater Wonders
The ocean has always been a source of inspiration for me. Its vastness and mystery invite endless stories. My upcoming summer release dives into the treasures hidden beneath the waves, from colorful shells to curious sea creatures.
This book is designed to ignite a sense of adventure and discovery. I wanted to encourage children to explore the shoreline, collect natural treasures, and appreciate the delicate balance of marine life. Writing about the ocean meant spending time at the beach, since I was a small child, observing and searching for treasures!
One memorable experience was a family trip to the coast where my children and I collected shells and watched crabs scuttle across the sand. These moments of hands-on exploration helped me shape the narrative and bring authenticity to the story. The book also includes a shell guide to some common shells found along the Atlantic coast!
Insights into My Writing Process and Inspiration
Creating children’s books is a blend of imagination, research, and personal experience. My writing process usually starts with a spark—an observation in nature, a question from my own kids, or a vivid memory. I keep a journal to capture these moments and develop them into story ideas.
Once I have a concept, I dive into research to ensure the information is accurate and meaningful. For example, when writing about Monarch butterflies, I consulted scientific articles and drew from my own experiences with them, right in my own backyard in my Monarch Waystation! This step is crucial because I want my books to be both fun and informative.
Drafting the story involves balancing simplicity with depth. Children’s books need clear language, but they also deserve rich themes that encourage thinking and feeling. I revise multiple times, often reading aloud to my children to see how the story flows and resonates.
Illustrations play a vital role in my books. I collaborate closely with a very talented artist, who just happens to be my daughter! She brings the text to life with colors and details that capture the essence of nature. Together, we aim to create an immersive experience that invites children to explore and learn.
Connecting with Readers and Sharing the Joy of Nature
One of the most rewarding parts of being a children’s book author is connecting with readers. I love hearing from parents, teachers, and kids who share how the stories have sparked conversations or inspired outdoor adventures.
I encourage families to read my books together and then step outside to observe the natural world. Whether it’s spotting a butterfly in the garden or collecting shells at the beach, these shared experiences deepen children’s understanding and appreciation of nature.
Looking Ahead to Spring and Summer Releases
This spring and summer, I am excited to release two new books that continue my journey of celebrating nature’s beauty. The Monarch butterfly book will be available just as the butterflies begin their migration, offering a timely connection to the season. The ocean treasures book will launch in early summer, perfect for families planning beach trips and outdoor explorations.
My hope is that these stories will inspire children to become young naturalists, eager to learn and protect the world around them.
Nature offers endless stories waiting to be told. Through my books, I invite children and their families to discover the wonders of Monarch butterflies and ocean treasures, to pause and appreciate the small miracles of the natural world. I look forward to sharing these adventures with you!
